THE BEST OF FOUR WORLDS
For thirty years Pepper Tree has been a beacon for quality wine in the heart of Hunter wine country. Founded in 1991 it continues to flourish as one of the stalwart wine companies of the region.
Pepper Tree started with a focus on grapes from the Hunter Valley but today the roots run deep for owner John Davis with vineyard sites in four premium wine growing regions across Australia.
Almost three decades on, Head Winemaker, Gwyn Olsen is making consistently great wines, drawing on these vineyards situated in the Hunter and Orange in NSW to prized patches of soil in Coonawarra and Wrattonbully in South Australia. You could say it’s the best of four worlds.
Our Commitment to the four regions in which John Davis has invested so much of his time and expertise in are the driving force behind all we do. The Hunter Valley represents us but the roots of the tree spread through all four regions.

Altitude The Lodge Smiggins
The major prize: Altitude – The Lodge Smiggins
Altitude was known for many years as “The Lodge Smiggin Holes”. In the late 70s a group of like-minded ski enthusiasts jointly funded its purchase to ensure ongoing access to a high-quality family lodge on the snow. Altitude is a fully commercial lodge and runs as such with all guests (first-timers, regulars and members) treated as part of the same lodge “family”. In fact, that family-friendliness is what makes Altitude so popular. Lisa Schweitzer has been in charge for many years now and under her care, the lodge continues to thrive. It’s no surprise that Lisa’s greeting on arrival is often “so nice to see you again this year”!
